Optic fiber is widely used in telecommunication networks of high data capacity for high-quality long-distance data transmission.

Due to its broadband nature optic fiber allows to transmit large data flows (some thousands of channels), for all that it has small overall dimensions and weight (10 times smaller than electric cable).

Owing to small signal loss optic fiber can be used for long data transmission segments (30…70 and 100 km). It has protection against external effects, transient noise and reliable safety measures (absence of arcing and short-circuit).

Optic data transmission systems surpass the electric ones. Wide bandwidth and small signal attenuation in the optic systems make it possible to transmit larger data amounts with less faults and loss and provide the fiber-optic cables with significant technical advantages in comparison with the copper cables.

Small signal attenuation is very important for the intercity networks because of its capability to increase the regenerator section length up to 100 km, and wide bandwidth makes it possible to construct networks in compliance with the modern data rate requirements that are constantly increasing for the networks of all levels.
